You mean in the Former French Concession? well, this area is filled with hotels that were built by the French and turned into 5 star ones by the Chinese :) Still, I was able to get a room for just 40 Y a night. Where? At the Shanghai Conservatory Guesthouse, a hostel that also has rooms on Hualhai Lu.
