Shanghai has many tourist offices and English is no longer a foreign language there :) Best thing you can do if you are lost :) which can happen quite easily, is to go to the tourist kiosk at the entrance to the main metro station. They have free maps and advice in English. The That's Shanghai monthly is also a good source
